This naturally processed coffee is produced by farmers in Chelbesa village. Chelbesa is one of the finest coffee producing areas in Ethiopia, known for its fertile red-brown soil, dense layered forest vegetation encompassing false banana trees as well as shade-grown coffee trees.
The coffee cherries from Chelbesa are processed at a washing station in a small hamlet called Danche that was built in 2019 specifically to process the coffee crops grown by farmers in nearby Chelbesa village.
This lot has been put together with the production of 495 smallholder farmers and processed using the natural method. Natural process means that the coffee beans are dried when still in the coffee cherry which imparts lots of delicious fruity flavours into the bean.
If you are looking for some interesting flavours or perhaps looking to try something new, natural process coffees are a good place to start and this one has lots of raspberry and strawberry with a little floral zing without the high acidity that you can sometimes find in lighter roasted coffees.
